Oral Transcriptome Mapping

The research of Oral transcriptoming mapping was conducted by University of Malaya’s Oral Cancer Research & Coordinating Centre (UM-OCRCC) collaborators which are Ministry of Health (MOH), Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF) and CRYSTAL of University of Malaya. The objective is to characterize the oral cancer Transcriptome in identifying the differentially express genes and novel mutations in oral cancer samples. Analysis on transcriptomics data carried out to select subset of genes differentially expressed in smokers and non smokers patients with different outcomes. Newly developed next-generation sequencing technologies with massive parallel sequencing-by-synthesis approach offer a highly robust, accurate, cost effective, higher depth and rapid results. Ilumina sequencing technology was used characterize the Transcriptome of oral cancer and normal samples and subsequently performed informatics analysis to identify the differentially expressing genes and mutation in cancer samples. This approach will provide detail molecular understanding of the mechanism underlying the development and progression of oral diseases and disorders, thus allowing better understanding of the complexities of transcriptional regulation and dysregulation in normal and cancerous tissues. Discovery of mechanisms underlying in biological pathway and processes related to oral cancer can helps to better understand interrelations among the observed differentially expressed genes. Analytical method and skills of bioinformatics are required for this research. It will also promote the exploration of possible anticancer targets and prognostic/diagnostic biomarkers.
