(B) The features of a protein that make it colored is the fact that it has aromatic compounds in it. It has alternating double and single bonds and it makes it able to absorb light.

(C) The features of the amino acid sequence that make a protein a particular color seems to occur somewhere around the 10th-12th amino acid in the sequence. For all of the colors, the last segment of the sequence varies in one or two amino acids.

Amino Acid Sequences

(A) Allele | Color | Amino

  • FFFFFFFRRRRRR - Red in color. Long slender in appearance.
  • RRRFFFFFFFRRR - Red in color. Intermediates stay in the middle, it has 2 side hydrophilic side chains.

  • KKKKKKLLLLLLF - Red in color. Long intermediate tail, hydrophobic head.
  • KKKKKKLLLLLLL - White in color. Long intermediate tail, hydrophobic head.

  • SLQLNITMEVDFW - Orange in color. Star like pattern in appearance.
  • EEEWWWWWWWEEE - Yellow in color. Intermediates stay together, 2 hydrophilic side chains.

  • When changing the ammino acid sequence from MSNRHILLVYCRQ to MSNRHILLVYFCRQ, color change from blue to purple was observed.
