Information sent to me about the event (we are volunteering for the 1st shift):
Thanks for your interest in volunteering with the Bread and Jams Sunday Meal. The Meal is officially supported by O’Naturals, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Hi Rise Bakery, Whole Foods, and ZipCar. These five provide us with a sustained source of coffee, baked goods, specialty foods and a way to get them every Sunday. The rest of the meal comes from the Cambridge Economic Opportunity Council (CEOC) and Food for Free.
We can use up to 10 volunteers per shift. This said, the 5 ½ meal is divided into 2 shifts. The 1st shift is 3 hours. It starts at 2:00 p.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. It involves prepping and preparing the dishes. The 2nd shift is 2.5 hours long with a starting time of 5:00 p.m. and it ends at 7:30 p.m. This shift entails serving the food to our clients and cleaning. It is a great way to really interact with some amazing people in our community.
Each week, Bread and Jams does a small grocery order to supplement the Meal. You can let me know that week, if there a special dish that your group would like to make. We also except any perishable food donations that your group would like to make. Such items like butter, eggs, cheese, mayo, garlic, milk etc would be excellent.
April: Boston Marathon, Monday, April 17th (early registration is required, I will submit a group request this November).
December 2005: Christmas in the City: It was a huge success. Thank you to everyone in BE that helped purchase a toy!

BE Food Drive, Nov. 1st - Nov. 15th, 2005
Our goal was 1 can/item per person in the BE Division. We met and exceeded our goal with 317 donated items to benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank! This translated to 309 lbs and 237 meals that will be given troughout eastern Massachusetts. Thank you everyone that donated and made this a successful event! I would like to especially thank Maxine Jonas, Hyung-Do Kim, Kristen Nagle, Shan Wu and Amy Nichols for all of their donations and extra help!
Didn't get a chance to donate? You can still make an online donation! Please visit the following website for more information:
October 19th, Wednesday, 5-8pm, at Community Servings in Roxbury. We brought a group of four excited BE folks to prepare and package meals that will be delivered to individuals and families in the Boston area living with AIDS and other acute life-threatening illnesses.
We had a great time and look forward to working at Community Servings in the future!
