Openings:

Research Associate and Postdoctoral Fellow in Genomics

Description: We are seeking an experienced Research Associate or a Postdoctoral Fellow to use and develop novel genome-wide methods for measuring transcriptomes (abundance, allele specific expression and noncoding RNAs) and epigenomes (DNA methylation and histone modifications) to identify the molecular basis for stem cell pluripotency and phenotypic variation among tissue types in human and mouse model systems.

The successful applicant will have extensive knowledge of advanced molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid manipulation methods, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), DNA methylation analysis by bisulphite modification, and RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization (RNA-FISH), tissue culture), experience working with RNAs (noncoding and rare transcripts) and must be interested in expanding their expertise of molecular biology by developing genome-wide methods for DNA and RNA extraction, genomic subset capture and sequencing library construction.

The successful candidate will enjoy access to cutting-edge technologies such as Solexa and SOLID sequencers, well-funded and intellectually stimulating environment of OICR's genomic platform, opportunity to drive projects and publish in scientific journals and attend scientific meetings.

Qualifications: Ph.D.in a molecular biology or related field

Application details: Send CV and a half page description of the type of research questions you are interested in and your career goals to nizar.batada "at" oicr.on.ca. Two references will be requested from short-listed applicants.

Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Biology

Description: We have an opening for a Postdoctoral fellow in Computational Biology to study organization and evolution of the Genomes and the role Epigenetics in regulating transcription. Our lab is part of the OICR's Genomics Platform which has ten next generation sequencers. We are in midst of generating massive amounts of sequencing data on DNA methylation, histone modification, transcript abundance and noncoding RNAs in stem cells and cancer tissues and are in need of bioinformatic analysis of this data. Questions of interest include the following: Analysis of human and mouse epigenomes; identification of epigenetically labile genes; relating epigenetic modification patterns to gene expression; understanding the genomic basis of stem cell pluripotency; identification of aberrant epigenetic modification in cancer; Identification, Evolution and function of regulatory noncoding RNAs. I am open to other related project proposals using machine learning methods.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in computational biology/bioinformatics with interests in genome analysis and epigenetics and have a working knowledge of bioinformatics, statistical methods and basic programming (python or perl, matlab or R etc). Candidates with very thorough knowledge of epigenetics who are strongly motivated to move into bioinformatics but have limited computational expertise are also encouraged to apply--I will train you in all the relevant programming/statistics skills.

Application details: Send CV and a half page description of the type of research questions you are interested in and your career goals to nizar.batada "at" oicr.on.ca. Two references will be requested from short-listed applicants.
