Job Openings

Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Associate (Noncoding RNAs, Epigenetics, Stem Cells)

Description:
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow or a Research Associate to use and develop genome-wide methods for identifying novel long noncoding RNAs. Our lab is interested in understanding the role of noncoding RNA in cell fate specification during stem cell differentiation in mouse model systems. Project involves identification of novel noncoding RNAs involved in stem cell differentiation and maintenance of cell fate identity using next generation sequencing.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Good knowledge of molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid manipulation methods and experience working with RNAs),
  • Experience with tissue culture and immuno-histochemistry,
  • Experience working with mice (desirable)

The successful candidate will enjoy access to cutting-edge technologies such as Solexa and SOLID sequencers, well-funded and intellectually stimulating environment of OICR's genomic platform, opportunity to drive projects and publish in scientific journals and attend scientific meetings.

Qualifications: Ph.D.in a molecular biology or related field

Application details: Send CV and a half page description of the type of research questions you are interested in and your career goals to nizar.batada "at" oicr.on.ca. Two references will be requested from short-listed applicants.

Postdoctoral Fellow ( Computational Epigenetics/RNAomics)

Description: We have an opening for a Postdoctoral fellow in Bioinformatics to study organization and evolution of mammalian epigenomes and to characterize the role of epigenetics mechanisms in regulating transcription. Our lab is part of the OICR's Genomics Platform which has ten next generation sequencers. We are in midst of generating massive amounts of sequencing data on DNA methylation, histone modification, transcript abundance and noncoding RNAs in stem cells and cancer tissues and are in need of bioinformatic analysis of this data.

Questions of interest include the following:

  • Evolutionary analysis of human and mouse epigenomes
  • Identify epigenetically labile and aberrantly methylated genes in cancer
  • Relate epigenetic modification patterns to gene expression (i.e. decipher the "histone code")
  • Identify the epigenomic/network basis of stem cell pluripotency and self renewal (transcriptional networks of pluripotent transcription factors such as Sox2, Nanog, Oct4, Polycomb and Trithorax proteins)
  • Identification, evolution and function of regulatory long noncoding RNAs in silencing.

I am open to other related project proposals involving statistical or algorithmic development to analyse large scale short-read sequence data.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in Biology/Bioinformatics/Computer Science/Statistics with interests in genome analysis and epigenetics and have a working knowledge of bioinformatics, statistical methods and basic programming (python or perl, matlab or R etc).

Application details: Send CV and a half page description of the type of research questions you are interested in and your career goals to nizar.batada "at" oicr.on.ca. Two references will be requested from short-listed applicants.

Undergraduates

  • 3rd or 4th year Undergraduates from a Canadian University who are interested in doing summer research (either wetlab or bioinformatics) are encouraged to email me.
