New RFP balancers
We are in the process of creating new balancer chromosomes carrying a novel RFP reporter construct driven by a fragment of an enhancer from the pointed gene. This fragment drives strong expression in the oenocytes and fat body and so can be used to easily identify larvae or adult flies carrying it under a dissecting microscope with fluorescence. So far we have created a CyO balancer carrying this reporter and are in the process of creating similar first and third chromosome balancers.
