Background
You are invited to take part in a research study. We are interested in understanding how the human
brain works and we require volunteers to participate in our experiments to help us answer this question.
Please read this information and feel free to ask any questions before you agree to take part in the study. Your participation is voluntary and you may
withdraw from the study at any time.

The purpose of this study is to help understand how the human brain processes auditory (voices) and visual (faces) information. You are being asked to participate in this study because you have volunteered on-line.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to help understand how humans process auditory (voices) and visual (faces) information. You are being asked to participate in this study because you have volunteered on-line.

Procedures
You will be asked to watch videos on a screen, hear sounds through speakers or headphones for between 5 minutes and 10 minutes.

You may find the following risk(s) or discomfort(s) from participating in this Study: you will be required to sit still for between 5 minutes and 15 minutes.
Potential Risks and Discomforts
There may be no personal benefit to you from your participation but the knowledge received may be of value to help patients with brain disorders get better care in the future.
You will be required to sit still for between 5 minutes and 15 minutes.

Neither your name nor information that could identify you personally will be used in the data analysis and publication/presentation of this study. Your identity will be kept confidential by: the researchers will save your responses by an anonymous code assigned to you, not by name.
Potential Benefits
Your participation is completely voluntary. You may refuse to participate or withdraw your consent or discontinue your participation in the study at any time without penalty or loss of benefits or rights to which you might otherwise be entitled.
You will receive no direct benefit from your participation in this study . However, your participation may help the investigators better understand how the brain processes sounds and pictures; this may help
patients with brain disorders get better care in the future.

If you have any questions about this Study, you should feel free to ask them now or anytime throughout the study by contacting Dr. Beauchamp, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology at 713/348-4850 or by email at Michael.S.Beauchamp@rice.edu.
