The TECAN Freedom EVO 150 is a highly versatile device capable of automating dozens of different applications. Our Tecan is currently equipped with a four-channel liquid handling arm and a 96 tip multi-channel arm. The instrument supports a wide variety of fluid transfer operations for both 96 and 384-well microplates including reagent addition, continuous reagent dispensing, sample transfer, plate replication, plate-to-plate transfer (96 to 96, 384 to 384, 96 to 384) serial dilutions, and within-well mixing. The Tecan Freedom Evo 150 can accurately handle volumes between 1 and 200 ul.

The Tecan Freedom EVO 150 is a highly-versatile device equipped with a four-channel liquid handling arm and a 96-channel pipette arm.  The instrument supports a wide variety of fluid transfer operations for all sizes of microplates as well as 150mm dishes and can perform operations including reagent addition, continuous reagent dispensing, sample transfer, plate replication, plate-to-plate transfer, serial dilutions, and within-well mixing.  The EVO can accurately handle volumes between 1 and 500 µl and has the ability to perform virtually any routine liquid transfer, replacing manual pipetting.  The Freedom EVO is user-friendly and runs the EVOware software package. The EVOware package allows for the creation of a virtual image of the platform (right) and allows the scientist to easily implement methods with a drag-and-drop graphical user interface.
The TECAN Freedom EVO 150 is currently located in [[BioMicroCenter:MAP|68-4XX]]. The TECAN will be relocated to the BioMicro Center in early 2009. Because of the flexibility of the EVO system, all users are required to be trained prior to using the robot. Training can be scheduled in the BioMicro Center with [[BioMicroCenter:People|Stuart Levine]].

Simulation mode is extremely useful in that it allows the user to pre-design the steps in their program. All users must download EVOware and design their protocols to be brought to the EVO.

The BioMicro Center is currently evaluating all of the different plastics to be used in the EVO. This is very important because a significant set up is required for handling each different type of tube, tip or plate, each of which must be configured separately.. Failure to use "approved" plastics can cause expensive damage to the machine and significant down time disrupting many experiments. BMC approved plastics will be available in the BioMicro Center at cost.

The Tecan EVO is controlled by EVOWARE STANDARD. The software itself is free and can be downloaded onto any PC. When not connected to the robot, EVOWARE runs in a simulation mode. This mode can be used to design all of your routines for the robot which can later be exported to the main robot. An image of the EVOWARE software will be placed online soon for download. In the mean time, the CDs are available by contacting [[BioMicroCenter:People|Stephen Goldman]].
