Minimal Training Requirement
Chances are you have previously fulfilled some of the following requirements if you have previously worked in Building 68. For the most part, you do not need to redo any training that you successfully completed with a previous lab. The exceptions:
Lab Specific Training
You will be required to complete the Lab Specific Training in order to become familiar with the hazardous particular to our lab.
Training Needs Assessment and Online Training
If you have already completed the online training, you simply need to updated your Training Needs Assessment to indicated Drew Endy is your primary DLC.
Also, verify that your Hazardous Waste Management has been updated in the last year as this training is required annually.
Complaince Form
You'll need to sign a new Compliance Form to indicate your training is update for our lab space.
This must all be up to date and in order before you can begin bench work
Full Requirements - Before Starting Bench Work
The following requirements must be completed before any new member can begin bench work. If some aspect of this training was not completed previously you must complete it now, before you begin any lab work. Please note that some aspects of this training can be completed before your arrival in lab.
- Lab Specific Chemical Hygiene Training
- Complete Training Needs Assessment (requires MIT certificate)
- General Chemical Hygiene Training (online)
- Managing Hazardous Waste Training (online)
- Read Biology Safety Plan and complete internal questionnaire
- Read Chemical Hygiene Plan
After completing these requirements, see the lab Safety Officer (Heather) in order to sign a Compliance Form.
Additional Requirements
- All individuals planning to do lab work also need to complete the General Biosafety for Researchers course in a timely fashion. However, this does not need to be completed prior to beginning lab work. If you completed this previously you do not need to repeat it.
- (optional) Anyone who will be using radioactivity in their experiments must first complete the Radiation Training course. This training is not required unless you are using radioactivity. If you completed this training previously you need only repeat it if you certification is outdated (more than 2 years old).
