Purpose

CAPS stands for 3-cyclohexylamino-1-propanesulfonic acid and is used in the protocol for heme staining of polyacrylamide gel blots. The powder has a formula weight of 221.32g/mol.

Recipe

1X CAPS is 10mM, pH 11

To make 5L of 1X CAPS,

  1. Combine the following:
    • 11.066g CAPS
    • 4.5L 10% Methanol
  2. Adjust pH to 11 with around 5mL 10N NaOH
  3. Add 10% Methanol to 5L
