Open Positions Lab Technician Opening: Job Summary This position is responsible for a wide range of laboratory support in a plant molecular biology/genetics/biochemistry. Required knowledge and skills include basic molecular biology skills including plasmid isolation, genotyping, RNA isolation, RNA amplification, PCR, gel electrophoresis, protein extraction and western blot. Expertise in cloning is required. Knowledge of use of standard molecular biology/biochemistry instrumentation including autoclave, PCR machine, microfuge, centrifuge, gel documentation system. Demonstrated capabilities in computer programs (PC-based) are required. Person will be also responsible for ordering, maintenance of supplies, and managing the laboratory. Required Skills: Communication Skills: Ability to present project data (Orally and written). Ability to contribute to project meetings through presentation of laboratory activities. Ability to document laboratory practices, efforts, and activities. Other Skills: Experience in working in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to multi-task as required. Ability to read scientific literature pertinent to job. Mentoring of other staff required. Critical thinking and assessment skills are needed for the position. The ability to work independently yet contribute to the overall efforts of the team is essential. Competency in PC programs including MS Office, Excel, and Powerpoint are required. Degree Requirements: B. S. in Biology/Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry and at least one year relevant experience.
