Introduction

Engineers don't normally receive much education in biochemistry and cell biology. One of the challenges they face when entering the iGEM project is how to start learning about synthetic biology. The aim of this guide is to give an introduction to synthetic biology that will be useful for engineers.

It was proposed that any information found useful should be posted to this page. Eventually, it should have several sections, taking the form of a textbook.

Proposed Sections

Write down your proposed sections here. Eventually, this will become a table of contents for the guide.

  • Glossary of Useful Terms
  • Organisation of the Cell
  • Amino Acids, Proteins, and Enzymes
  • The Cell Membrane
  • Membrane Transport
  • Cell-Cell Signaling (Receptors, etc.)
  • The Cytoskeleton
  • Cell Adhesion
  • Organisation of the Cell Nucleus
  • The Cell Cycle
    • Protein Synthesis
  • Standard Laboratory Techniques
