        <p>私たちは合成生物学の世界大会iGEM（アイジェム：the international Genetically Engineered Machine competition）に向けて活動している京大チームです。iGEMは学部学生を主体とした大会で、その規模は年々拡大し、現在では世界各国からおよそ240チームが参加するまでになりました。</p>

iGEM（アイジェム：the international Genetically Engineered Machine competition）は学部学生を主体とした合成生物学の世界大会です。マサチューセッツ工科大学内の生物工学分野における学部学生教育の一環として始まりました。その規模は年々拡大し、現在では世界各国から100チーム以上が参加するまでになりました。

iGEMに参加するチームはまず、各々で自由な実験テーマを設定します。iGEM本部からのテーマに関する規定は構築した遺伝子を生きた細胞内で機能させることのみです。夏の初めには、MITが用意する様々な遺伝子のパーツ（BioBrick；共通規格の制限酵素認識部位を両末端に待ち、組み合わせが容易な遺伝子パーツ）が各チームに送られてきます。

        <p>参加する学生チームは自分たちで立てたテーマに従って、各々の実験スペースで夏休みをかけて実験を行います。大会までには実験以外にも多くの段階があります。</p>

        <tr><td class="kyoto-about-workflow-text">iGEM本部からのテーマに関する規定は構築した遺伝子を生きた細胞の中で機能させることのみです。独創性のあるアイデアを持ち寄って、必要な実験、遺伝子や予想できるデータなど、調べてきたことをプレゼンで発表します。</td>

学生チームは夏休みをかけて各々の実験スペースで実験を行い、BioBrickや新規パーツを用いて生体システムを考案、設計、そして構築し、生きた細胞内で機能させます。また、実験と並行して実験結果などをインターネット(wiki)経由で全世界に発信していきます。最終的には、11月に行われるJamboree(本選)で英語による口頭発表とポスター発表を行い、wikiの内容を踏まえた厳選な審査の結果、様々な賞が与えられます。

iGEMは学部学生の大会ではありますが、そのレベルは高く、特にfainalist（決勝進出者）のレベルはあと少しで論文を書けるレベルに近いと評する方もいます。
