iGEM Kyotoは2008年度に結成しました。メンバーは様々な専攻の学部学生を主体とし、加えて修士院生とアドバイザーから構成されています。 テーマ（Raise the Titanic!）の独創性は群を抜いていましたが、残念ながら入賞を逃しました。
「今年こそは」と意気込んだ2009年は、さらにユニークなプロジェクトを2つ（Time Bomb とCells in cells）立ち上げ、主に夏休みの期間を利用して遂行し、10月31日から11月2日までMITで行われた本大会に参加して銀賞（silver award）を受賞しました。
2010年現在、まだ参加3年目であり様々な活動の基盤ができていない京都チームではありますが、参加学生各人の強い好奇心や意欲と様々な立場の方々のご理解とご協力により、学部生ならではの創造的な科学研究活動が展開されています。
