The materials and methods section describes an indirect plating assay to quantify binding of S. mutans to HA. Results in Table 1 indicates that this method can be used to quantify inhibition of binding by a competitor molecule.  In their study, the molecules are sugar polymers.<br style="clear:both;"/>
