Notes on fund raising for 2008

  • Invitrogen Foundation
    • Sent an exploratory email to the Invitrogen Foundation on 6/20/2008. They responded by saying that they are reconsidering the goals of their foundation. We could apply but the next review isn't until September.
  • AstraZeneca
    • They fund healthcare projects, not promising.
  • Biogen Idec Foundation
    • Submitted an application with their Corporate Responsibility group on 6/27.
  • GlaxoSmothKline
    • The mission of their philanthropy program focuses on global healthcare. It is unlinely that we qualify.
  • Merck
    • The Merck Company Foundation does not accept unsolicited requests.
  • Infinity Pharmaceuticals
    • They don't have an formal sponsorship program. I sent an unsolicited inquiry on 6/20/2008.
  • Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation
    • Sent an initial contact email using their online form on 6/20/2008.
  • Schering-Plough
    • Submitted an application on 6/27.
  • Genzyme
    • Submitted an application with their Community Relations on 6/28.
  • Monsanto has a six month turn-around on applications.
  • Millenium Pharmaceuticals focuses on patient education and cancer treatment.
  • Abbott
    • The Abbott fund focuses on geographical areas directly around Abbott facilities.
  • National Starch Food Innovation division (They have a plant genetics group, not clear if they have a philanthropy program yet)
    • sent an initial contact email using their online form on 7/6/08.
    • phone call made in late July; fund raising letter sent on 8/8/08
  • American Oriental Bioengineering, Inc.
    • sent inquiry email on 7/6/08
    • phone call made in late July; fund raising letter sent on 8/8/08
