Project Ideas

  • Genetic memory (look to Endy Lab)
  • Nitrogen-fixing bacteria for agriculture in third-world countries (Edelson)
  • Synchronized action using quorum sensing (look to this paper)
  • Myostatin-inhibition
  • Carbon sequestration (done by some extremophiles)
  • Malaria and sickle cell anemia. Solutions? (look to Berkeley 2007)
  • Mercury bio-remediation (in marine animals)

  • Meetings (weekly now, biweekly later in April)

  • Vice President for Research / Lab Manager (John)
    • Supplies, reagents (get discounts!)
    • Help grad students with orders (Jonathan knows this better than we do)
    • Daily lab meetings

Recruitment

  • Goal = 10 undergrads, 2 grads
  • Talk with CofC, MUSC, local private high schools
  • Go to Chemistry and Electrical Engineering Depts.

Short term goals

  • Training session
  • Explain team commitments and expectations to everyone
  • One more grad recruitment(and up to four more undergrads/high schoolies)
