Description/Abstract We are working on a rapid and novel diagnosis of the bacterium 'B. Pertussis', which is the known cause of Whooping Cough. As this can be deadly if not treated soon enough in infants, and in light of the recent Whooping Cough epidemic in California in 2010 and now Oregon, our project is incredibly relevant to public health concerns. The main issue in the diagnosis of the disease is the ability to detect the presence of the bacteria, and we are working on a method to quantify bacteriophages which specifically infect 'B. Pertussis'. Notes Work is currently underway on our project!
