Murphy's law-"Anything that can possibly go wrong, does." The microscope has so many components that at least one misbehaves on a weekly basis. Therefore, it is good to have a general idea of how the parts work together so that you can troubleshoot it. At the very least, look at "Figure 2-1 Sample configuration" and read section 2.2 "Bright Field Microscopy" for an idea of the workflow.
