・Abstract

DNA Origami is a useful technique to construct various nano structures and devices. In our project, we decided to apply DNA Origami method to represent art .We play nano-sized Flip-Book using DNA Origami nano structures. We adopted Aesop's fables as the subject.Three major components, The Hare,The Tortoise, and The Ground, are formed within one DNA Origami molecule. We will also make "Trees". Our goal is to make animation by connecting AFM images of many patterns. To show the whole story with AFM images, we have to construct many patterns. But it will require unrealistic cost. We solve this problem by connecting each components through a long Loops and combining each of them at proper positions.

・ Flip-Book

In this project, we show you Nano Flip-Book by using AFM images. In other words, we make a kind of nanoscale animation. In Japan, we often draw pictures on a chip of note or books. We flip through them quickly and it makes pictures look moving because of afterimages.

・Aesop’s Fables

The fairy tail "The Tortoise and the Hare" in this Aesop’s Fables is very famous around the world. We designed DNA origami in the shape of “The Tortoise”, “The Hare” and “The Ground” and observed AFM images of them. We play “Nano-Flip-Book" by flipping through them quickly.

・DNA origami

This DNA origami used about 200 staples DNA and consisted of major three components; “The Tortoise, the Hare and the Ground”, connected by flexible Loops at the both ends. if we make every frame of the stay with DNA origami, we will need thousands of staples. This will surely require astronomic costs. So we solved this problem by using proper joint staples to join DNA origami “The Ground and each character”. For example, when we moved DNA origami from “ The Tortoise” to “the Hare”, we used Loops on end of the Ground and made loops between “The Tortoise and the Hare” because if we don’t make Loop, we will need new many staples. We observed DNA origami “The Tortoise and the Hare” by using AFM many times. In this way, without using thousand of staples DNA, we succeeded in operating DNA origami “Tortoise” and “Hare” by using hundreds of staples to play Nano- “The Tortoise and the Hare” and successfully saved the staples cost.
