・Abstract
DNA Origami is a useful technique to construct various nano structures and devices. In our project, we apply DNA Origami to represent art. We play nano-sized Flip-Book using DNA Origami nano structures. We adopted Aesop's fables as the subject.Three major components, The Hare, The Tortoise, and The Ground, are formed within one DNA Origami molecule. Our goal is to make animation by combining AFM images of each frames. To show whole story with AFM images, tens of patterns are necessary. But it requires unrealistic cost. We solved this problem by connecting each components through a long linkers (Loops) and joined them at proper positions, by using appropriate staples.・ Flip-Book
In Japan, we often draw pictures on a chip of note or books, and flip through them quickly. It makes pictures look moving because of afterimages. In this project, we realized Nano Flip-Book by using AFM images. In other words, we made a kind of nanoscale animation.・Aesop’s Fables
The fairy tail "The Tortoise and the Hare" in the Aesop’s Fables is very famous around the world. We designed DNA origami in the shape of “The Tortoise”, “The Hare” and “The Ground” and observed AFM images of them. We play “Nano-Flip-Book" by flipping through them quickly.・DNA origami
This DNA origami motif, “The Tortoise, the Hare and the Ground” uses about 200 staples DNA and the major three components; connected by flexible Loops at the both ends. If we make every frame of the story with individual DNA origami, we need to prepare thousands of staples. This surely requires astronomic costs. So we solved this problem by using proper joint staples to join The Ground and each character.
