I am a MSc student working in Dr. Ben Koop's lab at the University of Victoria
Research
I am currently studying the host-parasite interactions of salmon and sea lice at an organismal and molecular level. Using physiological data gene expression tools, I am trying to understand what leads to the varying susceptibility to sea lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) among different species, or development stages. To do this, we are using gene expression technology (microarray and qRT-PCR) as well as immunoassays.
In addition, I am using microarrays and other expression technology to investigate the transcriptional response of Lepeophtheirus salmonis to a varying environmental salinity or temperature.
