Our lab is at the intersection of multiple disciplines, and we encourage the participation of individuals from a variety of educational backgrounds, including biology, chemistry, and engineering.
A highly motivated individual with doctoral training in biomedical engineering or other closely related disciplines is being sought for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position. The goal of this research project is to analyze how macrophages influence ovarian cancer progression. Using a microfluidic culture system we will examine how macrophage-derived factors influence tumor cell signaling and behavior, and then develop computational models to identify new therapeutic targets for ovarian cancer.
Applicants should hold, or be about to complete, a PhD or MD/PhD in biomedical engineering, systems biology, cell or molecular biology, or a related field. A highly motivated candidate is sought with an experimental background, a strong academic and publication record, and the ability to work both independently and in a team. Applicants with expertise in microfluidics, systems biology, cell biology, or immunology are preferred. Experience with cell culture, molecular biology techniques, microfluidic devices and/or computational analysis are highly desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Applicants will be expected to integrate into a multidisciplinary setting composed of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students.

We accept graduate student applications through the
Department of Biomedical Engineering, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Endocrinology and Reproductive Physiology, and Molecular and Environmental Toxicology Programs. We look for applicants with previous wet-lab experience in molecular-cellular biology, genomics-proteomics, cell-tissue engineering, or BioMEMs. Students with a background in bioinformatics, computational biology, or mathematics are also encouraged to apply, but be aware that we do not currently have any thesis projects that are purely computational. We consider undergraduates from all departments at UW-Madison but look most seriously at sophomores who are interested in finding a research lab to work in for several semesters. Expected time commitments are 10-15 hours per week during the academic year, preferably in blocks of 3-5 hours at a time. Space is dependent on the availability of graduate/post-doc mentors.
