NF007 - species - Stage 26 - 206.08.24
Experiment
Objective Try to get more detailed view of what are the auditory components.
Procedure
- Right: DiI crystal on cochlear branch of caudal branch of cochleovestibular ganglion.
- Left: DiO crystal on cochlear branch of caudal branch of cochleovestibular ganglion.
Notes
- Can still see some segmental boundaries.
- Dissection took forever but it looks quite good.
- Beautiful dye placement of cochlear branch of posterior branch.

Results
DiO did not seem to go in well. There is nice labelling on both sides. Very symmetrical labelling. Looks quite clean and beautiful, except that there is a bit of spill caudal to the VIII n. on the right side which showed up in the confocal.
63x objective not working.
Low mag images only, not a lot of detail.
RIGHT cochlear/lagenar branch of caudal cochleovestibular
Some spill caudal to the nerve entry.
- Afferents
Can't analyse, since I get some labelling from the DiI spill
- Efferents
Very few labelled despite strong labelling at the nerve entry
- Other
The nerve makes a well defined loop coming into the brainstem.
LEFT cochlear/lagenar branch of caudal cochleovestibular
- Afferents
Seem to form a single well defined bundle, one running caudal and one rostral. They obviously extend beyond the segments where the efferents are found.
- Efferents
There is clear label on efferents, especially in r4, although some r5 can be seem too, but there seem to be less of those.
- Other
The nerve makes a well defined loop coming into the brainstem.
