This training is required to introduce you to the space you will be working in.  It will cover the following:

This training should be completed you first day in lab and must be completed before you can start any bench work. The training takes approximately 30 minutes and consists of a walk through of the lab with the Safety Officer (Heather) in order to introduce you to the space you will be working in. Please make arrangements for this with Heather prior to your arrival. It will cover the following:

  1. No food or drink in lab
  2. Safety Equipment (Eyewash Stations, Showers, Spill Kits)
  3. Emergency Contacts/Flip Charts/Green Sheets
  4. Dial 100 during an Emergency
  5. Satellite Accumulation Area
  6. Hazardous Chemicals
    • Hazardous associated with Specific Chemicals we use
    • Proper Disposal
  7. MSDS and Introduction to Lab Reference Shelf (570)
  8. Autoclave Safety
  9. Personal Protective Equipment/Appropriate Lab Clothing
  10. BL1 Requirements
  11. Proper labeling of chemicals
  12. Emergency Evacuations/Fire Alarms/Lab Meeting Location
  13. Fire Extinguishers/MIT’s policy is not to fight fires
  14. Location of First Aid Kit
  15. Injury Reporting
