Important Sources of Published Works
As part of this course you will learn how to find and critically read scientific publications. Two excellent places to begin to look are:
Google scholar: scholar.google.com and
NCBI’s PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed
Both will allow you to use search terms and advanced query options to do the background research necessary for your projects. In addition there are two large background texts that will be of use to you once you have an idea of who is in your samples:
Bergey’s Manual of Systematic Bacteriology

The Prokaryotes: A Handbook on the Biology of Bacteria
