Selection Criteria

  • Nic Weber 13:47, 28 September 2010 (EDT): This morning I worked on selection criteria for the collection policy. I wanted to focus on language that emphasized DC's desire to collect material that was valuable, not that met a specific rubric. There are certain obstacles in laying out these criteria which include;
  • necessary knowledge of what metadata elements will be required for deposit
  • what the copyright status of a deposit should be, and what are the components of the deposit agreement
  • who will apply these criteria (or what to call this group...curators? a selection team?)

A larger question remains about how to disambiguate selection, acquisition and appraisal. These terms are often conflated in collection policies, and I'm not sure we've defined exactly what we mean by their use.
