• Dileep D. Monie 04:08, 29 March 2008 (EDT): Is there anyway to easily migrate data from /User:[username]/Notebook to /Notebook:[username]? Is it recommended that I use this new system now or should I wait until the major bugs are worked out?
  • Ricardo Vidal 12:30, 29 March 2008 (EDT): Hey Dileep, I recommend you wait just this weekend longer. We are about to roll our new lab notebook tools and well have a tutorial all set up. As for your existing data, I'll be more than pleased to help you transition any content from your current setup to the new one. We'll be in touch.
• Jason R. Kelly 13:19, 15 February 2008 (EST): If you put a /Protocols/blah within a lab notebook it thinks it's a new lab notebook. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but flagging it.
• Jason R. Kelly 13:30, 15 February 2008 (EST):The entry pages can't handle section headings, which people are going to expect them to. you currently get {{2}} out which will probably confuse folks.
• Jason R. Kelly 14:21, 15 February 2008 (EST): We will have early users who are keeping a lab notebook as individuals (e.g. vincent's group). But we will also have an iGEM team that is probably looking to keep a notebook as a group for a common project. I suspect their needs might not be exactly served by the current notebook. Might be worth thinking about how a group could create a document in the notebook space. It might have the exact same functionality as the current lab notebook, just wouldn't be associated with a particular user.

Group (iGEM) Lab Notebooks

• A preliminary lab notebook is being put together for the iGEM 2008 teams that is based upon the simplicity of the previous notebook/calendar technique but with new features like:
  • Enhanced Calendar with trimester view
  • Search within the notebook
  • Customizable project entry pages

• Ricardo Vidal 14:48, 21 March 2008 (CDT): In order to achieve Group functionality, user groups have to be created. One user can create the Group and then add other users to it. Can/Should it be done in this fashion?

Kelly 17:08, 21 March 2008 (CDT): Not clear why we need user groups, teams last year were able to use the notebook together without groups. not saying they are a bad idea (actually I think they are a great idea), but I want to get notebook working ASAP then we can add new features to it.
    • Ricardo Vidal 17:21, 21 March 2008 (CDT): I agree. This will work without the group feature set in, but Bill said it shouldn't be too complicated to put together. So I left the comment/feature for future reference.

• While starting the "random" button was very useful to randomly look for nice features to add to my page and to look for interesting labs or users (although now that I've identified useful pages I no longer use that tool). The sandbox was very useful as well.
• The Lab Notebook is very comfortable to use. I liked the possibility to add or modify some features while hiding others. There are some things I've changed:
• I prefer to name a project "Diffusible Signal Oscillator" instead of "http://openwetware.org/wiki/Notebook:Federico_Castro_M/Projects/Diffusible_Signal_oscillator" so I hid the project options and made direct links… This is a purely cosmetic change.
• I hid to the public view the "Create Projects" option. I guess that other users will not create projects for me very often.
• I don't use the "Make an entry" option often; I just click on the day I want to edit.
• I would appreciate a tool for seeing last or next month; right now it's very difficult to see what happened last month or what will happen next month.
• It would be amazing if you could modify the "next" and "previous" links that are in the top of each notebook entry so that it would take you to the next edited entry instead of the next day's entry (that might not be edited).
