Principal Investigator

Christine K. Payne Ph.D.

Christine received an S.B. in Chemistry with Honors from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Post Docs

Saheli Sarkar
Saheli earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and her M.S. from Drexel University. While at Case Western, Saheli worked in the group of Prof. Harihara Baskaran on cellular migration. Saheli is working with the Payne and Kemp labs to understand redox activity inside cells.


Debjyoti Bandyopadhyay
Debjyoti earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Syracuse University with Prof. Yan-Yeung Luk. Debjyoti has worked on the fabrication of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of chiral polyol-terminated alkanethiols on gold. In the Payne Lab, Debjyoti is working on bioconjugation and lysosomal transport. 		Austin Cyphersmith
Austin earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from University of Massachusetts Amherst with Prof. Mike Barnes studying the orientation edependence of chiroptical properties of single molecules. Currently he is building a two-photon TIRF microscope.


Graduate Students

Candace Fleischer
Candace earned her M.S. and B.S. in Chemistry from Western Washington University. In the Payne Lab, she is studying nanoparticle-protein interactions.

Undergraduate Students
Hursh Sureka
Hursh is a 3rd year Chemical Engineering major who is studying the biological synthesis of conducting polymers.
 Patrick Chen
Patrick is a 3rd year Biochemistry major studying the biological synthesis of conducting polymers with a focus on polymer solubility.


Lab Technicians

Eddy Shin
Eddy is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Biochemistry. He is currently studying the importance of membrane potential on the cellular binding of nanoparticles.
 Emilie Warren
Emilie is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a Spanish minor. She is currently studying the effect that cellular binding of nanoparticles has on changes to the membrane potential.

Syeda is currently a research assistant at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Gerard Dooley (Spring 10 - Spring 12, Postdoc)
Ger has taken a position as a pharmaceutical consultant.

Nicole Fay (Spring 07 - Spring 08, GT undergraduate)
Nicole is a NSF Graduate Fellow in the Chemical Biology Graduate Program at the University of California, Berkeley in the lab of Prof. Jay Groves.

Solaire Finkenstaedt-Quinn (Summer 09, REU from Macalester University)
Solaire is a Ph.D. student in Chemistry at the University of Minnesota in the lab of Prof. Christy Haynes.

Molly is a nursing student at Georgia State University.
