Notebook format

Notebooks should probably include some important stuff. Professor Michael Gold, instructor for previous 307L classes, required the following:

  1. Purpose
  2. Statement of the principle of the measurement
  3. Sketch of apparatus
  4. Notes from procedure taken while setting up and calibration
    • Include any calibration data and analysis to determine calibration constants and there errors.
  5. Notes from acquiring data
    • Include all raw data
    • Data deemed unusable should be labeled as such
    • Data deemed usable should be labeled as such
  6. Calculations and plots needed to complete the experiment
  7. Calculations leading to determination of error on q or test of h
