Physics307L:Schedule/Week 6 agenda
From OpenWetWare
- Discussion of Lab #1
- Official in-class exam is not practicable. Therefore it is informal and ongoing (whenever we talk about things).
- Discussion of changes to course
- Rough draft of final report due beginning of Week 12 (Nov. 5)
- Bonus points on final lab writeup given for contributions to wiki lab manual (a lot of you have a great start on this already)
- Calculating mean +/- standard error of the mean (aka standard error & standard deviation of them mean)
- This is the foundation: allow us to find the most likely value of a parameter, with an associated value. Knowing how to do this is essential for more sophisticated things we will learn: error propagation, fitting functions, etc.
- Central limit theorem (I): (Last week) distribution of averaged measurmeents ... (II): distribution of single measurement as a result of a bunch of small, independent, random errors.
- Significant figures
