Our lab studies information processing in cells. We are particularly interested in understanding how these decision making processes are encoded within the cell through feedback control.
Our labs applies systems and synthetic biology to problems in renewable energy, microbial physiology, and infectious diseases. We seek to identify the principles governing the design of living organisms and then apply these principles to guide the design of new and improved organisms for economic, environmental, and medical benefit. Our ultimate goal is to develop a rational design framework for engineering living organisms.  
 
Our lab is also engineering bacteria for the production of fuels. We are specifically interested in optimizing the uptake and metabolism of C5/C6 sugars in bacteria and in developing new genetic tools to make this possible.
