Welcome to the Schauer Lab! Our laboratory is affiliated with the Department of Biological Engineering and the Division of Comparative Medicine at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Our studies of microbial pathogenesis focus on naturally occurring human and murine bacterial pathogens and mechanisms of inflammation and epithelial hyperproliferation in the gastrointestinal tract. Our research is relevant for inflammatory bowel disease, hepatitis, increased cancer risk associated with these conditions and biodefense.
