I'm from Seattle WA, in the Pacific Northwest. In high school I picked up scientific interests in genetics and computational biology with Leonid Kruglyak at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Along the way I got involved in politics, martial arts, and computer programming.

I finished undergrad in 2005 with a degree in Chemistry from Stanford.
