Jake Beal on BioBrick parts & High-Level Programming

If BioBrick parts are the assembly language of synthetic biology, then they should be able to serve as a foundation for higher-level languages that permit more modularity and code reuse. I consider the problems of compilation and language design, showing how several working synthetic biology systems might be generated automatically by compilation from higher-level descriptions.
