Research: RNA-binding proteins are absolutely necessary for gene expression. You can't get very far in terms of splicing, export, mRNA transport, and translation, etc. without them. So, we wanted to know what the expression of these genes looks like in the developing mouse. Using high throughput in situ  hybridization, we identified a number of novel mammalian RNA binding-proteins that are restricted in expression to nervous system or epithelial tissues. My current focus is centered about identifying the purpose of several of these tissue-specific RNA-binding proteins. I am interested in deciphering the RNA targets of these genes, within the broader goal of studying gene regulation by RNA-binding proteins.
