It involved a lot of field study, taking samples, and performing chemical analyses on the blood. As a freshman at MIT, I UROP'd at MGH doing clinical research to investigate the effects of giving growth hormone treatments to former acromegaly patients. This past summer, I did an early stage research internship at Genentech, Inc. My work there focused on trying to characterize the roles of various proteins in the apoptotic pathway. I honed protein chemistry, recombinant DNA, microscopy, and other assorted lab skills. It was definitely both my most exciting and most substantial research experience to date, and I can't wait to learn more this semester! | ||

My first foray into lab work was doing environmental science research at the Marine Mammal Center in high school.
