Objective

To synthesize purple protein fibers.

Description

  1. 1 mL of 15.4 μM BSA and 0.500 mL of 4.3 mM Chloroauric acid and 8.50 mL water were mixed in a reaction tube
  2. 1 mL of 15.4 μM BSA and 1 mL of 4.5 mM Chloroauric acid and 8 mL of 50 mM acetate buffer (pH 4.3) were mixed in a reaction tube
  3. The tubes were placed in an oven at 80°C for three hours. The reaction tubes were taken out of the oven every thirty minutes and sat at room temperature before returning to the oven.
  4. The tubes containing the protein fibers were wrapped in aluminum foil and stored at room temperature.

Data

The reaction with Chloroauric acid and water produced purple fibers. The other reaction mixture produced a clear solution with dark fibers.
