<u>Nanoparticle Synthesis</u>
Four reactions were performed. Three epitube reactions and one large glass test tube reactions were set up.
The large test tube reaction consisted of 1 mL of 30uM BSA, 0.5 mL of 4.17 mM HAuCl<sub>4</sub>, and 8.5 mL water.  The tube was placed in an oven set to 70°C for 3 hours. 
Epitube 1 - 100 uL BSA, 50 uL HAuCl<sub>4</sub>, and 850 uL water. Final Concentrations:
Epitube 2 - 25 uL HAuCl<sub>4</sub>, 50 uL BSA, and 925 uL water in this order.  Final Concentrations:
Epitube 3 - 50 uL BSA, 25 uL HAuCl<sub>4</sub>, and 925 uL water in this order.  Final Concentrations:
<u>Dissolving Purple Fibers</u>
The fibers were dissolved in four different solutions.
Solution 1 - 1 mL of 1 M Tris
Solution 2 - 1 mL of 6 M NaOH
Solution 3 - 1 mL of DMSO
Solution 4 - 1 mL of DMSO
A small clump of fibers was added to solutions 1, 2, and 3.  Due to the success of dissolving fibers in solution 3, a large amount of fibers was added to solution 4.

* The large reaction tube had a dark vibrant purple color. 
* Epitubes 2 and 3 had the same color: a light pink-purple. Epitube 1 had a darker color than tubes 2 and 3.  It was a light-medium purple color.
* Fibers did not dissolve in solution 1.  After 1 week, the fibers dissolved in solution 2.  All of the fibers dissolved instantly in solution 2.  A large amount of the fibers dissolved instantly in solution 4.  After 1 week, the majority of the fibers had dissolved and the solution became a dark purple color. A small amount of tiny fibers could be seen floating around.
