Objective

To investigate the effects of using an ice bath on nanoparticle synthesis.

Description

164.3 Molar Ratio

Two 164.3 molar ratio reaction mixtures were prepared by mixing 100 uL of 30 uM BSA, 200 uL of 2.5 mM HAuCl4. and 700 uL water.

Tube A was left in the heat block set to 80°C for 3 hours. Tube B was placed in the heat block and was taken out and placed in ice for ten minutes every half an hour.

67.6.5 Molar Ratio

Two 67.6 molar ratio reaction mixtures were prepared by mixing 100 uL of 30 uM BSA, 75 uL of 2.5 mM HAuCl4. and 825 uL water.

Tube C was left in the heat block set to 80°C for 3 hours. Tube D was placed in the heat block and was taken out and placed in ice for ten minutes every half an hour.

  • note - both 164.3 molar ratio tubes (A and B) were placed in the ice bath by accident. C and D were left in the heat block the entire time

Data

  • Tubes A and B were both clear at the end of the reaction period, while tubs C and D both had purple solutions.
