My academic interests are in the areas of marine biotechnology, synthetic biology, metabolic pathway engineering and bioprocess engineering. Specifically, I would like to design a bioprocess that utilizes engineered bacteria (via synthetic biology principles) to produce a desired product such as fuel or pharmaceuticals (via metabolic pathway engineering) based on genetic components derived from marine organisms. Additionally, I'm interested in bioremediation, marine conservation and supporting biodiversity through engineering and applied science.

If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water. –Loren Eisley

I'm currently looking into graduate programs and preparing to work on my undergraduate thesis, which will hopefully incorporate proteorhodopsin into an E. coli bioprocess. Please let me know if you know of any departments that do the kind of research I'm into.

All of the effects of Nature are only the mathematical consequences of a small number of immutable laws. –Pierre Simon de LaPlace Everything that living things do can be understood in terms of the jigglings and wigglings of atoms. –Richard P. Feynman
