Objective

  • Complete the QD synthesis begun yesterday

Protocol

  1. Create 20 mM sodium sulfide solution
    1. .024018 g of Sodium Sulfide (MW=240.18) needed for 5 mL
    2. Used .1977 g of Sodium Sulfide used because the sample is contaminated with excess water
  2. Add 4 mL of 20 mM sodium sulfide solution to reaction
  3. Allowed the mixture to stir vigorously for 15 minutes
  4. Poured contents (minus the stir bar) into a darkened falcon tube, to be stored at room temperature
  5. total synthesis time: 11 hrs and 20 minutes + 15 minutes for Sodium Sulfide addition

Notes

  • Before sulfide addition the reaction was a very pale yellow. After sulfide addition the reaction was darkened (possibly the pale brown the literature discussed)
