Objective

1) remade glutaraldehyde films with pdms and glutaraldehyde

2) Clay exchange with CuSO4*5H2O

3) flims with glutaraldehyde and clay .....

  • still need make 1 gram PVOH with Gluteraldehyde
  • and finish exachange 2,3,4
  • finish standards

Description

with glutaraldehyde make sure to wear completely covered goggles on face when handeling

1)

a)

  • PVOH=0.5 grams + 5ml of water dissolved on hot plate
  • turned off heat no more heat needed added Glutaraldehyde underneath the hood
  • let stir underhood with no heat for about 3 minutes
  • pured into dish
  • let sit underhood

b)

  • PVOH~.4 grams + 5ml of water dissolved on hot plate with .1262 g PDMS
  • once dissovled turned off heat took under fumehood and added 1 ml of glutaraldehyde with a platic tip pipette
  • l let stir without heat underhood for about three minutes

2) Na-MT~.1grams (repeating with 50% and 100% CEC surfactant clay) added to 20ml CuSO4*5H20 underfume hood

  • mix for 1 min then dry filter flask it and keep the filtrate
  • mix for 5min same thing
  • mix for 10min same thing

3)

a)

  • Prepare 1.0g PVOH ~ 1.0058g with .1g Na-MT~.1069g heat to dissolve and get a homogeneous mixture
  • remove from hot plate and take under fumehood wear goggles, turn off heat and continue stirring
  • added glutaraldehyde without heat just stirring for 3 minutes
  • pour in dish

b)

  • Prepare 1.0g PVOH with .1g 100% CEC Surfactant Clayto dissolve and get a homogeneous mixture
  • remove from hot plate and take under fumehood wear goggles, turn off heat and continue stirring
  • added glutaraldehyde without heat just stirring for 3 minutes
  • pour in dish

Data/observations

1)

a)PVOH=0.5 grams + 5ml of water dissolved on hot plate + 1ml of glutaraldehyde

  • clear and rather thick compared to without glutaraldehyde

b)PVOH~.4 grams + 5ml of water dissolved on hot plate with .1262 g PDMS + glutaraldehyde

  • clear and rather thick compared to without glutraraldehyde

2) Na-MT~.1grams (repeating with 50% and 100% CEC surfactant clay) added to 20ml CuSO4*5H20 underfume hood

  • for Na-MT clay the filter was covered with green/blue color got darker as the time mixed increase, we believe this is because copper exchanged with the na in the clay
  • for 100% exchange filler paper was not as green was still pale brown
  • for 50% exchange filter paper was not green at all still pale brown

3)

a)Prepare 1.0g PVOH ~ 1.0058g with .1g Na-MT~.1069g heat to dissolve and get a homogeneous mixture + 1ml of glutaraldehyde

b)Prepare 1.0g PVOH with .1g 100% CEC Surfactant Clayto dissolve and get a homogeneous mixture + 1ml of glutaraldehyde
