Procedures

Polymer Bead Synthesis

Goal: form beads that don't crosslink with each other

  • 1.0015 g PVA, 0.1099 g Clay, 7 mL 1 M HCl and mix until dissolved
  • Add 500 uL glutaraldehyde, mix for 3 minutes
  • Drop solution into 200 mL acetone in 600 mL beaker
    • Did not work
  • 1.9930 g PVA, 0.1050 g clay, 4 mL 1 M HCL and mix until dissolved and volume is reduced (to get a high concentration as possible)
  • Drop 1 mL solution into hexane
    • Formed spheres for ~2 seconds before falling apart
  • Combine 1 mL solution with 50 uL glutaraldehyde
    • Solution too thick to stir
