Past Projects

Expression of carotenoids in E. coli

DeLong Lab, MIT
I introduced genes for biosynthesis of retinal, beta-carotene, and lycopene. Strains producing these compounds will be used for screening a small-insert library for carotenoid-modifying activity. Retinal production will also be used for expressing the proteorhodopsin photosystem in E. coli to generate ATP as a tool for metabolic engineering applications.

DNA assembly

Codon Devices, Inc., Cambridge, MA
Developed an assembly method of large sequences of DNA.
Blake et al, Nucl. Acids Res. 2010 [1]

M13 library

Belcher Lab, MIT
Created a library of M13 bacteriophage with varying p3 and p8 coat proteins for screening against quantum dots, magnetic nanoparticles, and tumor cells.
