  • Bovine Serum Albumin unfolds in heat and when exposed to HAuCl4, it's cysteine residues react with the hydrogen bonds and Au(III) is reduced to Au(0). The unfolded BSA wraps around Au and presses it into nanoparticles. <ref>J. Phys. Chem. C, 2011, 115 (7), pp 2982–2992</ref>
  • This reaction will be tried under various conditions, with varying concentrations and buffers.
  • Other proteins, including ADA, will be tested for potential as a reducing agent of Au.
