Description

From Dr. Hartings' Notes Polymer-Clay Films Add 7mL of water to 1g of 22,000MW polyvinyl alcohol and 0.11g of sodium montmorillonite in a glass vial Stir the solution with constant heating at 75C until the polymer is dissolved and the clay is dispersed (~15 minutes) Cool the solution to room temperature Add 0.5mL 0.8 wt% glutaraldehyde. NOTE: Perform step 4 in the hood Stir for an additional 3 minutes to ensure homogeneity Pour solution into a teflon dish to dry until the next class Polymer Films Add 7mL of water to 1g of 22,000MW polyvinyl alcohol in a glass vial Stir the solution with constant heating at 75C until the polymer is dissolved (~15 minutes) Cool the solution to room temperature Add 0.5mL 0.8 wt% glutaraldehyde.
