ObjectivePVOH Cross-linking with glutaraldehyde, 100 % exchange Na-MT, 50 % exchange Na-MT, and γ Fe3O4 coated Na-MT (in a ratio of 1.5:1 to make a magnet absorbent) in 2 g Na-MT would be prepared. DescriptionPVOH + Glutaraldehyde: 0.5 g of PVOH (MW of 22,000) in 5 ml of water solution was prepared, by heating the solution at 80 degrees Celsius and was stirred until completely dissolved. Then, 0.25 ml of glutaraldehyde was added (by using the P-1000) once the solution was cooled at room temperature, under constant stirring. The resultant solution was allowed to stay in the fume hood for up to 48 hrs for the film production to occur. 100 % Exchange Sodium Montmorillonite, NaMT: Mass of the surfactant, DMHdIBr, used was 0.7390 g, was added into 25 ml of water (HPLC grade), in addition to 2.004 g clay (NaMT) and 25 ml ethanol, under constant stirring for a week (7-days). 50 % Exchange Sodium Montmorillonite, NaMT: Mass of the surfactant, DMHdIBr, used was 0.3690 g, was added to 25 ml of hplc graded water, in addition to 2.000 g of clay (NaMT), and 25 ml ethanol, under constant stirring for a week (7-days). γFe3O4 Coated NaMT (magnet absorbent) 1.5:1 ratio : To prepare this solution, 1.04 g of Iron(II) chloride was mixed with 0.5 g of Iron(II) sulfate in 40 ml of water solution. 2 g of the clay, NaMT was also used in presence of 2.67 g, NaOH in 10 ml solution, that was aided drop wise.
