  • Pasco Scientific AP-8210 Millikan Oil Drop Apparatus
  • Mineral Oil
  • SMIEC Micrometer
  • Wavetek 85XT Multimeter

Setup

capacitor spacing: 7.6 mm

Voltage across plates: 501.3 +/- .1 V

Thermistor: 2.056 +/- .001 M Ohms

For successful viewing of the oil particles, it is crucial that the apparatus is cleaned properly, specifically the capacitor plates. After rinsing the capacitor plates thoroughly with water, we then calibrated the optics portion of the apparatus.
