Objective

Description

Part 1 Preparation of porphyrin films

  • Add 2 drops of HCL, 1 ml of gluteraldehyde and 1 ml of porphyrin after the solution is homogeneous and cooled down.
  • Keep everything under the hood.

Part 2 UV-VIS of porphyrin dilutions

Part 3 Prepare dilutions of 50micM Na2SO4, 50micM H2SO4

Na2SO4

  • FW: 142.07 g/ml
  • 1/142.07 g/mol x 50micM/L x 10^(-6)mol/1micM x 1/1000ml x 10ml= 0.071035 g in 10 ml of HPLC water.
  • (50micL) (x) = (50micM) (10mL)
          x  = 0.01 ml =10micL of Na2SO4 in 9.99ml HPLC water

Data

ISE results for sodium sulfate dilutions

  • Dilution 1(1.25ppm)= -180mV
  • Dilution 2(2.5ppm)= -182.6mV
  • Dilution 3(5ppm) = -182.4mV
  • Dilution 4(10ppm )= -177.4mV
  • Dilution 5(20ppm)= -174.6mV

  • We decided detection limit was between dilution 1 and 2.
  • More negative number means less sodium ion in the solution.
  • The porphyrin films prepared on 10/10/2012 had a yellowish green color. They were not clear as the other films.
